The newly crowned Junior World Champion Jaka Hvala of Slovenia won the qualification for the first ski flying competition in Harrachov, Czech Republic. Hvala jumped on 203 m and reached a total of 196.5 points.

"The flight curve here is pretty high in the first part of the jump, then it goes really well. I expected that you would fall like a stone with the new suits, but that's not the case. I had some really good flights here", said Hvala.

Maciej Kot of Poland showed the longest jump of the qualification with 205 m (194.9 points) under better wind conditions and came in second, ahead of Norwegian Rune Velta (202 m; 192.7 points).

Local hero Cestmir Kozisek surprisingly finished fourth, best Austrian was Michael Hayboeck as fifth. Maximilian Mechler and Andreas Wank were the best of the German team as eighth and tenth.

Schlierenzauer on his way to the overall title

The best jump of the pre-qualified athletes was once again shown by Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer. He jumped on 204 m from start gate 13 and has a good chance to achieve his 47th win in the World Cup already on Saturday. A record for the history books. Jan Matura (200 m), who won both competitions in Sapporo recently, and Jurij Tepes (197.5 m) could also show good performances.

Schlierenzauer, who leads in the overall World Cup ranking with 1000 points, already took a big step towards winning the overall title already before the first competition this weekend. Because of the absence of his main opponents (Anders Bardal, Anders Jacobsen and Severin Freund are all taking to get in a better shape again after the weekend in Vikersund was not so good for them) Schlierenzauer can significantly extend his lead.

Michael Neumayer, who is also pre-qualified, showed good jumps in training on 196 m and 197 m and did not take part in the qualification.
