Slovene Jaka Hvala won the qualification for the New Year's competition of the 61st 4-Hills-Tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Hvala showed a jump on 134.5 m (129.9 points). " the jump in the qualification was my best here in Garmisch-Partenkirchen so far. I still made some mistakes so I can further improve my performance tomorrow. But right now I'm satisfied with today's result", Hvala said.

The second place went to Kamil Stoch of Poland with 130.5 m (121.4 points). With this performance Stoch once again showed that his shape is getting better. "My jump today were pretty good, especially the first one and the one in the qualification. I hope that I can show similar jumps tomorrow", Stoch told. But Stoch has to present himself in top shape in the New Year's competition because in the K.O. round he will have to jump against Swiss Simon Ammann.

Russian Dimitry Vassiliev proved his great form and confirmed his fourth place of Oberstdorf. 130.5 m (124.0 points) earned him the third place today. Vassiliev keeps fighting for the top spot at the 61st 4-Hills-Tournament with the best.

And the best, that could also be seen in the qualification in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, are Norwegian Anders Jacobsen, the winner of the event in Oberstdorf, and Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer. With jumps on 138 m (Schlierenzauer) and 135 m (Jacobsen) both proved that they are in a league of their own at this 4-Hills so far. They are the ones to beat if you want to win the New Year's competition 2013.

For the German team, Michael Neumayer could again show a convincing performance. Neumayer posted the best jump of his team today. With 133 m the veteran has a good perspective for tomorrow's competition. Andreas Wank (th), Andreas Wellinger (16th), Richard Freitag (17th) and Martin Schmitt (20th) presented themselves in a good form as well. Ten of the 12 German athletes qualified for the competition.

For the third of the competition in Oberstdorf, Severin Freund, the first day in Garmisch-Partenkirchen didn't go that well. Freund will be the first to jump in the competition with bib 26 in his duel against Italian Sebastian Colloredo. This task doesn't seem too difficult for him.

The second to last duel of the competition promises to be especially exciting: Andreas Kofler of Austria, who was disqualified yesterday, will have to jump against overall leader Anders Jacobsen.

Zografski and Hlava strong

Vladimir Zografski showed a suprisingly strong performance. The Junior World Champion of 2009/10 came in seventh with a jump on 131 m. Lukas Hlava was the best Czech as ninth.

Finnish team still struggeling

Lauri Asikainen will be the only jumper to represent the Finnish team in the competition. Ville Larinto (46th), Olli Muotka (54th) and Sami Niemi (55th) could not qualify for the competition.

Poland with positive trend

The team of Lukasz Kruczek could again show a good performance. Except Klemens Muranka,  who was disqualified because his suit was not according to the rules, all six athletes of the Polish team qualified.
