With the training and the qualification in the "Erdinger-Arena" in Oberstdord the 61st edition of the 4-Hills-Tournament started on Saturday. After the three rounds, FISskijumping.com spoke to some athletes and asked them for their impression.
Anders Jacobsen: I'm very satisfied with my performance concerning the technique and the result. My shape is getting better and better and so I can enjoy tomorrow's competition. It's a lot of fun. Yesterday in the hotel we said that it might be good for us that we are the underdogs this year and that we don't have as much pressure as the Austrians and the Germans.
Andreas Kofler: Anders Jacobsen jumped very strong today but I think there are also other athletes who are fighting back now after Engelberg. I think it was obvious that it will not only be a fight between Germany and Austria.
Gregor Schlierenzauer: It was a great start today to get used to the hill again. It worked pretty well for me. My jump in the qualification was good, but there's always room for improvement. There's still some work to do until the jumps meet my expectations technically. It's nice when you can confirm the position as one of the favorites in the qualification, but I already knew that I'm in a good shape. The field is really tight and even a small mistake can make a big difference.
Andreas Wellinger: I'm not really satisfied with my performance today. The jumps were not as good as I want them to be. But it will definitely be better tomorrow.
Thomas Morgenstern: My jumps could be better, but I can be satisfied. In the qualification I had some problems in the inrun and I also have to focus on the timing at the take off again. There are some small things I have to work on. Maybe it's an advantage that I'm not among the top favorites and there's not that much pressure on me. But I also know that everything is possible at the 4-Hills-Tournament.
Wolfgang Loitzl: Of course I have a positive feeling after my jump in the qualification. I tried to adjust to the hill and the new inrun track and that worked pretty well. I'm happy that I can show a good performance when it counts. There are also some jumpers among the best who were not considered favorites before. That shows how tight the field is and that the 4-Hills-Tournament can get very exciting.
Michael Neumayer: All three jumps today were fun. I had three great jumps, was always among the best and I hope I can show that tomorrow as well. What's special about this 4-Hills-Tournament is that we are in a situation where many jumpers are in a good shape and we as a team can achieve a lot of good results. We didn't have that for a while and so I'm looking forward to this Tournament.
Martin Schmitt: It was a solid training and a good qualification. The jumps were good and I'm happy that I could show such a performance. I don't have any expectations for this 4-Hills-Tournament. In the past weeks I was really enjoying ski jumping so my main goal is to jump far. If you have to qualify for the 4-Hills then you really appreciate it again. When you sit on the bar on top of the hill and you are looking down and see how the crowd is cheering you on it's a good feeling. It's difficult to say who is the favorit at this 4-Hills-Tournament. I think it might be a fight between Germany and Austria, but there are also some others like Kamil Stoch or Anders Jacobsen. It will definitely be interesting.
