Germany's Stephan Hocke has decided to end his career as a ski jumper. He planned to retire after this winter, but now the 29-year-old made the decision to take this step earlier.
"I don't think that I have a chance to achieve my goals. Therefore I'm lacking the motivation to continue competitive sports on the highest level", the athlete of the German state of Thuringia told in a media release of the German Ski Association (DSV).

Hocke, who already has a coaching licence, wants to stay involved in sports also after his career and now plans to study to become a sports teacher. Also a career as a ski jumping coach is possible. "We respect the decision of Stephan Hocke and wish him all the best for the future. We would be happy if he would be willing to pass on his experiences and know-how within our federation. The door is always open for him", told Horst Huettel, sports director for ski jumping of the DSV.
Olympic gold is the biggest success
Stephan Hocke made his debut in the World Cup in November 2001, already three weeks later the back then 18-year-old celebrated his first and only World Cup win in Engelberg. He also achieved his biggest success in this season. Together with Sven Hannawald, Martin Schmitt and Michael Uhrmann he won Gold in the team competition at the Olympic Winter Games 2002 in Salt Lake City.
