About ten days ago the last World Cup competitions before Christmas took place in Engelberg (SUI) and now this short competition break also ended on the "Gross-Titlis-Hill" with the Continental Cup.
The winning streak of Austria's Stefan Kraft in the COC continued in an exciting competition on Thursday. After the 19-year-old could already win the first two COC events in Almaty, he now also won in Switzerland.
With 119 m Kraft was already in the lead after the first round and with 121.5 m (211.4 points) he captured the win. "Winning under difficult conditions means a lot to me. I had good jumps and this gives me self-confidence for Friday", told the winner.
Thomas Diethart finished second with jumps on 114.5 m and 119.5 m (197.7 points) and secured the double victory for Austria. "I'm satisfied, it would be nice if it would go on like that."
With 197.4 points (111.5 m and 124.5 m) the third place went to Poland's Jan Ziobro, who moved up from ninth after the first round to the Top 3 with the longest jump of the final round and was obviously satisfied. "It's a good feeling to be on the podium in a competition with such a strong field of athletes."
Norwegian Mats Berggaard (197.1 points) and Czech veteran Jakub Janda (197.0 points) closely missed the podium.
Martin Schmitt, who is fighting for one of the three free spots in the German team for the 4-Hills with seven other athletes, came in sixth and seems to have a good chance in this qualification within the team.
Behind the Norwegians Ole Marius Ingvaldsen (7th) and Fredrik Bjerkeengen (8th), the third-best German on this day, Daniel Wenig, was ninth. The jumper from Berchtesgaden was second after the first round, but he was not able to defend this position in the final.
A record number of 94 athletes from 20 nations took part in this competition. Among them for the first time also a jumper representing Greece, Nico Polychronidis.
Felix Schoft of Germany showed a great jump on 129 m in the final round and would have came in second but he was disqualified after the second round because his underwear was not in accordance with the rules.
With the maximum amount points 0f 300, Stefan Kraft leads in the overall ranking ahead of Poland's Klemens Muranka (160 points) and his teammate Thomas Diethart (138 points).
