A new training center for ski jumping and nordic combined was opened this week in Nizhniy Tagil. Besides the hills in Sochi and Tchaikowsky, Russia now has another modern facility to further develop and promote nordic sports.
The city of Nizhniy Tagil is located about 1860 km east of Moscow, near the border between Europe and Asia. In the local sports school "Aist" more than 120 children are ski jumping and they now get great possibilities for training on the four new hills (K40, K60, K90 and K120).
Reconstruction of the facility at the Dolgaya mountain started in 2009 and cost about 49 million Euro. On Wednesday the children could jump on the smaller hills for the first time, members of the Russian nordic combined team were the first to jump on the large hill.
As a first important international event the final of the men's Continental Cup will be held in Nizhniy Tagil on March 16 and 17, 2013.
