Austria fights back - setback for Norway. The jumpers from Scandinavia, who were so successful over the last weeks were not in the Top 10 at the ski flying in Oberstdorf.

Ski flying specialist Martin Koch captured the victory for Austria. Ski flying is the world of the jumper from Carinthia. With the longest jump of the day on 221.5 m he achieved the third win of his career. "I wasn't flying like today for a while. I had two sensational jumps. We made some mistakes recently, but we learned from it and came back stronger after this little crisis. I can live with the fact that now I'm one of the favorites at the World Championships", said Koch.

With a total of 443.4 points he won ahead of strong Japanese Daiki Ito, who achieved his seventh podium result this season with 433.2 points. Ito is now in the lead in the ski flying World Cup. "I am very happy about my performance today. Now this competition is done and I have to focus on the next challenges. The good results are not only important for me but also for the whole team. At the moment I am in a good shape, so I won't change anything in view of the Skiflying World Championships in Vikersund. After I have been able to win in Sapporo this season, my goal is to achieve a victory in Europe."

Ammann on the podium for the first time this winter

Ski flying World Champion Simon Ammann was third - for the first time this season. The Swiss is back right on time for the World Championships in Vikersund next weekend. With 429.0 points he was close behind Ito. "It is great that I am back on the podium just in time. I managed to show two good jumps today and that was another step into the right direction. This season didn't go as planned for me, so I had to work very hard and improve a lot of small things. Now I have the feeling that I am on the right way and results like today definetely increase my self-confidence."

The results of Peter Prevc »

It was a competition on a high level in which the world's best ski flyers showed what they are capable of on the huge hills. With a great jump on 220 m Robert Kranjec moved up to the fourth place and was the best Slovene in this competition. 19-year-old shooting star Peter Prevc was eighth.

Czech Roman Koudelka, who is very consistent this winter, finished fifth, followed by the best Pole, Kamil Stoch of course, as sixth. Gregor Schlierenzauer was seventh. Lukas Hlava of the Czech Republic was ninth, ahead of the best German Severin Freund.

Hilde best Norwegian

The best Norwegian was only eleventh. And it was Tom Hilde in his comeback competition. Anders Bardal was 12th, ahead of Andreas Wank who set a new personal best with 209.5 m. Because of this result of the Norwegians, Austria took the lead in the FIS Team Tour again. They scored 2324.1 points, ten points more than Norway (2314.1 points). Japan is third (2296.9 points), followed by Germany (2263.6 points).

The Finnish team could not score World Cup points, their only athlete in the competition, Anssi Koivuranta, was not in the Top 30. It also didn't go that well for Andreas Kofler. The Austrian, who was leading in the overall World Cup for a long time this season, was only 19th. "I still have some problems in ski flying already over the knoll. But at least one of the two jumps today was good", Kofler explained.

The Heini-Klopfer-Hill in Oberstdorf »

The Norwegian team for the World Championships next week in Vikersund becomes clearer, especially world record holder Johan Remen Evensen doesn't have very good chances. He was only 26th in Oberstdorf.

Evensen not in shape for Vikersund

Head coach Alexander Stoeckl still has some time to think about the team. Will he really not nominate a world record holder on the world record hill? On Sunday the FIS Team Tour ends with the team competition in Oberstdorf. And Vegard Haukoe Sklett will probably not be on the team then. He was the only Norwegian who could not qualify for the final round.

The results of French Descombes Sevoie »

Generally the competition took place under fair tailwind conditions. Stephan Hocke could not participate because he got sick. French Vincent Descombes Sevoie proved that he can handle large hills and tailwind: he was 22nd.

Bardal is still in the lead in the overall World Cup with 1139 points. Schlierenzauer follows as second (1095 points). Kofler is still third.
