How strong are these Norwegians?! The young athletes of head coach Alex Stoeckl won the opening event of the FIS Team tour - and they won clearly. They captured this win with almost a completely new team. Anders Fannemel, Rune Velta, Vegard Sklett and Anders Bardal secured this victory with 999.2 points. Norway already won the team competition in Harrachov.

With this result the Norwegians now have a good chance to win the extra prize money of 100 000 Euro, awarded to the winners of the Team Tour. "This victory is a great success. Of course it's nice to have a lead before the next competitions, but there are four more events left so nothing is decided yet. My goal for tomorrow is to jump as well as I did today", said Velta.

Austria finished second and with 976.3 points Martin Koch, Andreas Kofler, Thomas Morgenstern and Gregor Schlierenzauer were already 22.9 points behind the Norwegians. Especially Koch and Morgenstern had room for improvement. "The Norwegians were simply better today. We were jumping on a decent level, but it was just not enough to win. Tomorrow we want to attack and win again. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, the hill is very well prepared and the atmosphere is awesome", said Martin Koch.

Freund best German

Germany came in third in front of the home crowd and especially Severin Freund showed a good performance. He was second in the individual ranking behind the incredibly strong Czech Roman Koudelka. But also Andreas Wank was very good. Richard Freitag and Maximilian Mechler did not have their best day. But still they finished on the podium with 963.7 points. Japan narrowly missed the podium with 961.8 points.

"I'm very satisfied with my performance. Finally we were on the podium again, we have been fourth many times in the past. To achieve that in front of the home crowd is fantastic. Tomorrow I'll focus on my technique and I hope that the positive trend continues", said Freund.

Takeuchi would have been on the podium

Best Japanese was Taku Takeuchi, who would have been third in an individual ranking on Saturday. Also Daiki Ito had a great competition. Slovenia, with a very good Peter Prevc, was fifth, ahead of the Czech Republic. Poland was seventh, ahead of Finland.

It was a very nice competition under absolutely fair conditions, even if the winds were changing from time to time. "It's a spectacle here, a fantastic atmosphere. If you show a good performance they cheer you on unbelievably", Wank said about the atmosphere at the hill.

Deschwanden raises hopes for Switzerland

Switzerland, Russia and Kazakhstan did not qualify for the second round. But for Switzerland, Gregor Deschwanden showed his potential. He jumped on 130.5 m and would have easily qualified for the final in an individual event.

The individual competition will take place on Sunday, before the FIS Team Tour continues in Klingenthal on Tuesday and Wednesday.
