Ski jumping legend Jiri Raska passed away

Czech ski jumping legend Jiri Raska died at age 70 after a long and serious illness.

 

The sport in the Czech Republic loses one of its most important personalities. He will be remembered not only as a great athlete, but also as a great person.

 

At the Olympic Winter Games 1968 in Grenoble Raska won the Gold medal on the normal hill and silver on the large hill. In winter 1970/71 he won the 4-Hills-Tournament

1976 he ended his career and started working as a coach.

 

Last fall he was awarded a medal of merit by Czech president Vaclav Klaus to honor is great achievements. "This is a huge honor for me, I'm very happy about it. I will never forget this experience", Raska said back then.

 

His two grandsons Jan and Jiri Mazoch followed in his footsteps and also became ski jumpers.
