Sarah Hendrickson from the USA won today's ladies World Cup competition at Predazzo, Italy, where the FIS World Championships will take place during the next season. With two jumps of 105 and 107.5 meters, Hendrickson managed to claim the victory in front of Austria's Daniela Iraschko (275.5) and Anette Sagen from Norway (248.1). "Winning is always amazing and it's a lot of fun", says the happy winner and laughs.
Daniela Iraschko underlined her role as a favourite and her good results from the training with the first round's best jump. Sarah Hendrickson, who has already won two World Cups in this season, took the second rank behind Iraschko at half time. In the second round, though, Hendrickson managed to go even further and landed the day's best jump and the overall win. "I managed to load up on self confidence today", Daniela Iraschko said after the competition. "But Sarah Hendrickson is really hard to beat right now."
Norway's female skijumping pioneer Anette Sagen was the best Norwegian athlete after the first round and was in a very good attack position with an intermediate rank five, a position that she knew how to use in the second round. She had a good jump and managed to climb on the third spot on the podium. "My performance is getting better step by step and my second jump today was really good. So, I am very happy that I made it on the podium today", Anette Sagen sums up her day.
The local heroes from Italy had a difficult start into the competition. Elena Runggaldier was unlucky with the conditions and did not manage to jump into the best 30 athletes for the second round. Her teammate Evelyn Insam, though, was able to improve after a weaker jump in the first round and climbed up 9 spots into a rank 16 in the final result.
