After the successes of the German ski jumpers this winter, not only the anticipation but also the expectations increased among the fans and the media before the start of the 4-Hills-Tournament.
But head coach Werner Schuster set no specific goals yet for his team around their two best Richard Freitag and Severin Freund. "Both athletes can compete for podium results in every competition. Concerning the overall ranking you can't speculate until after the first two competitions in Germany. What we want to do right from the start is to show great and exciting competitions and spark excitement among the fans. And the athletes shall get a boost from this enthusiasm."
Goose bumps before the 4-Hills
Also Severin Freund is looking forwrd to this excitement. "The 4-Hills-Tournament is something special for me. When I think about the opening event in Oberstdorf, the full stadium, the atmosphere, then I get goose bumps. This atmosphere is unique and I consider it a privilege to be a part of it. I go to the 4-Hills with a positive feeling because I'm satisfied with my performances so far this winter. It goes exactly as I wanted. I wanted it to continue the way it was last winter and I could do that so far", said Freund, whose goal is to be in the Top 10 of the overall ranking.
Top 10 is the goal
The expectations of his teammate Richard Freitag are similar. "My goal for the 4-Hills-Tournament is to continue to establish myself among the ten best ski jumpers of the world. Even though that's different than in normal World Cup competitions because of the k.-o. duels I want to achieve that goal with consistent jumps. Everything has to work perfectly to be on top."
At the first two competitions in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen the German Ski Association can also nominate a national quota and so twelve German jumpers will participate there. Besides Freitag and Freund these will be Martin Schmitt, Michael Neumayer, Pascal Bodmer, Stephan Hocke, Maximilian Mechler, Felix Schoft, Andreas Wank, Markus Eisenbichler, Daniel Wenig und David Winkler. Danny Queck, who is currently competing at the COC in Engelberg might get his chance in the World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
