Kenneth Gangnes won the FIS Grand Prix competition in Chaikovsky, Russia. With jumps on 103.5 m and 99.5 m, the Norwegian scored a total of 254.1 points in the competition that was moved from the large to the normal hill today and came in ahead of Robert Kranjec and his teammate Joachim Hauer. This was the first win in the FIS Grand Prix for Gangnes.
Gangnes said afterwards: "It's really nice here, both hills are fun to jump on. The change from the large to the normal hill was not a problem. It's still ski jumping."
Veteran Kranjec jumped on 102 m and 99.5 m for 250.5 points and finished second, like last weekend in Hakuba. Kranjec told: "I had some problems with the change to the normal hill, because yesterday we jumped on the large hill. But it went well in the competition. I had two good jumps and I'm very happy about the result."
First podium for Hauer
With 100.5 m and 99 m and 249.0 points, Joachim Hauer was third and achieved his first podium result in the FIS Grand Prix. Hauer said: "The facility here is really nice, two great hills. That's the beauty of ski jumping, that it can get really close sometimes. But you should not worry about the points before the jump, you should just think about the tasks you got from the coach."
Only 0.3 points behind Hauer, Anze Semenic finished fourth, like last week, with 101 m and 100 m.
Kornilov closely misses the podium
To the joy of the Russian fans, Denis Kornilov came in on a very good fifth place with 99 m and 99.5 m and a total of 248.2 points. Also Dimitry Vassiliev in 11th, Ilmir Hazetdinov in 12th and Evgeniy Klimov in 14th did not disappoint the local fans.
The places six to ten went to jumpers of Japan and Poland: Yumu Harada was followed by Piotr Zyla and Kamil Stoch. Grand Prix overall leader Kento Sakuyama was ninth, ahead of his teammate Junshiro Kobayashi.

The team of Switzerland could score Grand Prix points with Gregor Deschwanden in 13th, Luca Egloff in 16th and Pascal Kaelin in 27th. 19-year-old Norwegian Joacim Oedegaard Bjoereng was 17th and achieved a good result in his first appearance in the Grand Prix.
