Since Summer 2009 the wind conditions are included in the calculation of the total points. These conditions are measured individually and in realtime for every athlete.

During the jump the wind is measured at five different points and an average value is calculated. If there's tailwind the jumper will get bonus points, for headwind points are deducted. The formula to calculate the wind factor is adjusted to every hill individually.

The new wind formula:

Δw = TWG x (HS – 36)/20
HS - hill size (m)
TWG - tangential wind speed - average value (m/s)
Δw - wind effect on jumpind distance(m)

Example:

An athlete jumps 119.5 m on a large hill with HS 130 and the wind components measured are 1.55 m/s tailwind. The distance is [(130 - 36)/20] x 1.55 = 4.7 x 1.55 = 7.28 m, rounded up to the nearest half meter, 7.5 m. His jump would be calculated as 127 m.
