Tom Hilde underwent an ankle surgery on Thursday in Oslo in order to get to the bottom of a long-lasting injury.
Already since the World Championships in Predazzo last February, the 25-year-old felt pain in the ankle and now it was tried to find out the reason for these problems with a surgery.
"It's a quite weird injury because it was never extremely painful and i've been able to do all my trainings. I've felt some pain, but not a lot. The MRI pictures I took a while ago showed that something was stretched and the normal healing time for that is 12 weeks. When that passed and i still felt pain, we decided to do surgery", Tom Hilde writes on his website.
During the operation scar tissue was found at a tendon in the ankle, that probably caused the pain when moving the joint. "We think, that this is the right solution for the problem, but we still have to wait. This is an extremely seldom injury and there's nothing about it in the medical textbooks", Doctor Torbjoern Haugen is quoted on nrk.no.
A long break will not be necessary after this surgery. "It's nothing big and I will probably be able to jump soon, and do physical training even sooner", the Norwegian told on tom-hilde.com.
