Beautiful sunny weather and thousands of fans created an impressive atmosphere for a very exciting team event in Planica. In front of their home crowd the Slovenes were the best, followed by Norway and Austria.
It was a great day of Slovenian team, which presented itself in top shape in front of huge crowd of Slovenian fans and could capture the well-deserved win in Planica. Great jumps were shown by Jurij Tepes (223 m and 207 m), Peter Prevc (219.5 m and 204.5 m), Andraz Pograjc (204 m and 183.5 m) and Robert Kranjec (211.5 m and 203.5 m). The Slovenes scored a total of 1561.8 points."It was a great day for our team. The crowd here is fantastic. Tomorrow I would be happy if I could show two good jumps again", Jurij Tepes said after the competition.
Despite the serious injury of Anders Jacobsen, Norway fought for the win on Saturday and probably would have won the competition. In the first round Anders Bardal showed the longest jump of the weekend with his 230 m, but could not land it without touching the snow with his hands. Bardal, Rune Velta, Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell and Andreas Stjernen reached a total of 1551.1 points. "We are very satisfied with the competition today, especially after the fall of Anders Jacobsen yesterday. The second place is really good for our team. Planica is always great, a nice hill and a nice crowd", told Elverum Sorsell.
The third place went to Austria, with eight strong and consistent jumps and 1546.7 points. On Saturday Martin Koch (218.5 and 208 m) was the best Austrian, but Wolfgang Loitzl (199.5 and 201 m), Stefan Kraft (201.5 and 198.5 m) and Gregor Schlierenzauer (201.5 and 209.5 m) could keep up with the best. "I'm really happy with today's result. It was a tough fight today, but we knew that before. Everyone showed a good performance and we are proud of this third place. My jumps here got better and better and so I'm satisfied. Hopefully it'll be the same tomorrow", said Koch.
The Polish team, with Piotr Zyla, Maciej Kot, Krzysztof Mietus and Kamil Stoch reached a total of 1543.2 points, but could not achieve a podium result even after an impressive jump of Stoch, who landed at 221.5 m. Probably Lukasz Kruczek and his athletes would have expected more of this competition, as they were one of the top contestants for the win.
The Czech team presented itself very well at the Letalnica-hill and finished fifth. Lukas Hlava, Antonin Hajek, Cestmir Kozisek and Jan Matura posted eight consistent jumps that earned them 1511.6 points. A good performance of the Czechs in the last team competition of this season.
The sixth place went to Germany with 1501.6 points. Andreas Wellinger had a dangerous fall in the trial round and could then show jumps on 201.5 m and 191.5 m in the competition. Michael Neumayer presented himself in his strong shape, but Richard Freitag and Severin Freund did not that well on Saturday.
Despite a great performance of Noriaki Kasai, who posted jumps on 219.5 and 220.5 m, the team of Japan came in seventh. Taku Takeuchi, Yuta Watase, Daiki Ito and the veteran Kasai scored 1500 points.
Also Italy (Roberto Dellasega, Andrea Morassi, Diego Dellasega and Sebastian Colloredo) could participate in the second round. The team of head coach Jakub Jiroutek reached a total of 1181.6 points.
The USA (Anders Johnson, Nicholas Alexander, Peter Frenette, Nicholas Fairall) was the only team, that did not make the cut for the final and came in ninth with 580.9 points.
