A few hours after the first Continental Cup competition today, Russian Irina Avvakumova also won the second event in Oernskoeldsvik, Sweden. While she had to share the first place in the first competition with Julia Kykkaenen, the Finn came in second this time. The third place went to Germany's Ramona Straub, who missed the podium in the first competition.
After the first round it seemed that the result would be similar to the one of the previous competition. Irina Avvakumova and Julia Kykkaenen were leading with 119 points. Avvakumova showed the longest jump of the round with 96.5 m Her rival from Finland could not keep up with this performance and landed at 92.5 m but got higher judges' marks. Germany's Pauline Hessler was third at half time. Her teammate Ramona Straub was on a shared fourth place with Anastasiya Gladysheva, who was third in the first competition.
Avvakumova then posted another strong jump in the second round with 96 m and proved that she is in a good shape right now. 242.5 points were enough to win this competition. "This is the first time that I won two victories on one day, so I am happy, of course. I had no difficulties in reloading for the second competition", the happy winner said. Julia Kykkaenen again lost a few meters with her jump on 93 m and came in second with 238 points. "I had a good feeling after the first competition today, so for the second event I planned to just enjoy and have fun. I realised that my technique was better now in the evening", Finland's Julia Kykkänen said.
The third place also went to Germany at the end of the competition. It was not Pauline Hessler, but her teammate Ramona Straub, who took the spot on the podium. After 90.5 m in the first round, she jumped on 93.5 m in the final, scored a total of 232.5 points and came in third. Pauline Hessler had not such a good second jump and finished fourth. "The second competition of today was nice and there was not as much wind as during the day. I had no expectations for today, to be honest. Anyway, I had fun here, the hill is very good and I am looking forward to compete here soon again", Ramona Straub laughed.
The other places in the Top 10 in the second competition in Oernskoeldsvik went to Anastasiya Gladysheva (RUS), who was in the podium in the first event, Nita Englund (USA), Sofya Tikhonova (RUS), Alexandra Kustova (RUS), Nina Lussi (USA) and Charlotte Mitchell (CAN). So the Russian team once again showed a strong performance and achieved a great team result.
With her second win today, Russia's Irina Avvakumova extended her lead in the overall ranking to 250 points. Julia Kykkaenen is now second with 180 points, followed by Ramona Straub (150 points).
The third and final individual competition of the Continental Cup weekend in Oernskoeldsvik will take place on Sunday.
