The Continental Cup stops in the Slovenian ski jumping center in Planica. The two competitions this weekend were the first international competitions on the brand-new large hill. Because it was not possible to jump on Saturday due to the heavy snowfall, both competitions were held on Sunday.
The victory in the first competition went to shooting star Stefan Kraft of Austria with 129 m and 126.5 m and a total of 238.9 points. The 19-year-old, who already attracted some attention in the World Cup this season, celebrated his sixth win the COC, the fourth this winter. "It is always nice to jump under such good conditions and the hill here in Planica is great. I hope I'll get the chance to compete in the World Cup again next week", said Kraft.
Stefan Hula of Poland came in second with 128.5 m and 125.5 m (235.2 points). He was followed by three athletes of the hosting team of Slovenia. Anze Semenic took the third spot on the podium with jumps on 125 m and 126 m (229.3 points).
With the best performance in the second round Matic Benedik moved up from 16th to fourth and closely missed the podium with his 228.4 points. Matic Kramarsic as fifth and Andraz Pograjc as ninth completed the great result of the Slovenes.
Best Norwegian was Atle Pedersen Roensen as sixth, also Manuel Poppinger of Austria (7th), Norwegian Vegard Swensen (9th) and Jan Ziobro (10th) were able to achieve Top 10 result.
In the second competition this afternoon, Stefan Hula was able to reverse the result. The 26-year-old won the competition with 125 m and 131 m and 245.7 points. For the Pole this was the second win in the COC, he captured his first one in September 2009.
For Stefan Kraft, third of the Junior World Championships in Liberec late January, his jumps on 125 m and 131 m (240.3 points) were enough to finish second.
Vegard Swensen of Norway could improve his performance from earlier today and was third with 239.4 points (126 m and 129.5 m), closely followed by his teammate Atle Pedersen Roensen (4th).
Anze Semenic and Matic Benedik were again the best of the Slovenian team, this time as fifth and sixth. Only 17-year-old Dominik Maylaender was the best of the Germans as seventh.
For Elias Pfannenstill of Austria (8th) and Pascal Kaelin of Switzerland (9th) the day in Planica ended with the best results of their careers so far.
Stefan Kraft now took the lead in the overall ranking with 525 points, ahead of Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell of Norway (384 points) and Manuel Fettner (380 points).
