The Norwegian team started the ski flying weekend in front of their home crowd in Vikersund with high goals. At the end the jumpers of head coach Alex Stoeckl fell short of the expectations.
The Norwegians didn't achieve a podium result on the world's largest hill and especially the stars of the team disappointed the high hopes of the thousands of fans. So Anders Bardal was only 12th and 17th, Tom Hilde 20th and 22nd and Anders Jacobsen 7th and 21st.
Stjernen best Norwegian
From a Norwegian perspective only Andreas Stjernen could show great performances in Vikersund. The 24-year-old achieved his best World Cup results so far as fourth and eighth and showed some strong jumps.
Break for the stars
Now it was decided that the three best Norwegians this winter, Bardal, Hilde and Jacobsen, will not travel to Harrachov for the next ski flying World Cup events this weeekend and train at home instead.
"Ski flying is sometimes very strange, I know I'm in a good shape right now, but for some reason I wasn't able to fly. I'm quite sure I would have performed better in Harrachov than in Vikersund, but right now I feel I don't want to risk the good feeling I have at the hill just for some more ski flying", Hilde explains on his website tom-hilde.com.
The Norwegian team for Harrachov will consist of Andreas Stjernen, Rune Velta, Anders Fannemel, Ole Marius Ingvaldsen, Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell and Fredrik Bjerkeengen.
