Daniela Iraschko justified her role as one of the favourite athletes once again and kept on presenting herself in a very good shape like she has done at the previous competitions of this year’s Summer Grand Prix. With jumps of 97 and 97 m and a total of 255 points she managed to dominate the starting field in both rounds. “I am looking back on very good and successful training sessions throughout this summer. I am training together with the men and they are all better than me. Last week we had a training camp in Lillehammer and I decided to stay here to compete at the Continental Cup”, said the satisfied winner who laid the foundation of her victory with this day’s longest jump in the first round. “It was the right decision to postpone the competition to Saturday morning because the conditions were really great. Tomorrow I would like to show a jump of 106 meters once again”, laughed Iraschko.
Also her team mate Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, who had a comfortable advantage after the first round, assured her position and was happy about achieving the second place though struggling a bit with the conditions: “Actually I am satisfied with my performance today. My first jump was not that good because I had some problems with the conditions. The second jump was much better. Tomorrow I will try to jump even better and maybe I will manage to stand on top of the podium”, said the Austrian girl after having jumped distances of 89 and 91.5 m (228.5 points).
After the first round the two Slovenian girls Anja Tepes and Maja Vtic promised an exciting fight for the third place but they were not able to keep up with the best athletes of the final round. So it was Julia Kykkaenen (FIN) who managed to move up from the sixth to the third place at the end (77.5 and 80.5 m, 177 points). “My first jump could have been better, but the conditions are no reason for that. The wind was okay and I hope it will be the same tomorrow, where my goal is to show two good jumps”, said Kykkaenen.
The local heroes from Norway might have been a bit disappointed by their own performance. 18-year-old Maren Lundby achieved the best Norwegian result of the day on the 14th place. With three athletes among the Top Ten, however, Canada showed a good team performance on the first competition day in Lillehammer.
The Ladies Continental Cup in Lillehammer continues with another individual competition on Sunday.
