Bardal on his way to the overall title

opprettet på: 14.03.2012 10:40 / km

Will the fight for the crown of the overall World Cup will reach its final stage already today? Anders Bardal could clinch the title already in Oslo at the Holmenkollen although there are still two more competitions left this season after this weekend.

For that he would have to score 89 points more than Gregor Schlierenzauer. This means that if Bardal wins and the Austrian is not better than 20th he would have to title.

Gregor Schlierenzauer

Schlierenzauer focuses only on the competition

Sounds not very probable, but it's possible. Schlierenzauer has not given up yet, but he is not focusing on the World Cup. He just wants to jump well and enjoy the competitions.

The Holmenkollen in Oslo »

That should be easy in Oslo, the cradle of ski jumping. Also because the 22-year-old has positive memories: Last year he won three Gold medals at the World Championships here. On the Holmenkollen he won ahead of Thomas Morgenstern and Simon Ammann. Bardal was seventh.

Ito is the one to beat

But Bardal's shape is a lot better this year. His consistency is incredible and for him nothing would be better than winning on the Norwegian monument in Oslo. If this would also mean that he wins the overall title, the 29-year-old would definitely be more than happy when he travels to the season's final in Planica next week.

But many athletes want to win on the Holmenkollen. Daiki Ito is the man to beat right now. Also Richard Freitag is in a top shape and Ammann showed with his podium result in Trondheim that he has to be reckoned with. And the Swiss knows how to win in Oslo.

Training and qualification is schedule for today, the competition will take place on Sunday at 2:15 pm CET.
