opprettet på: 05.03.2012 15:15 / km

The wind and Lahti - this is a story of its own. Also this year the Ski Games in the Finnish winter sports center suffered from the changing conditions and strong gusts of wind. That was also the reason why the jury decided to carry out the competition on the normal hill, but also there Sunday's individual event was not always fair.

But still there was a worthy winner: Daiki Ito celebrated his third win in the World Cup and the first in Europe. The Japanese remained cool inspite of the conditions, showed two great jumps and with 245.5 points he clearly won ahead of Norway's Anders Bardal, who was the winner today in the fight for the overall World Cup title. Bardal reached a total of 239.2 points and scored 80 important points for the dream of the yellow bib.

"Today was a difficult day because of the wind conditions. I was lucky with that and also jumping well with a good technique. It was a good day for me and my team. Usually, I don't like the small hills too much but today was perfect", told the winner. And also Anders Bardal was satisfied with the day. "It feels good to be back on the podium after two weekends I was not really satisfied with. But I managed to show good jumps on both days. Especially the last one today was high level jumping in really challenging conditions. A lot of the top guys were unlucky with the conditions but this is the game."

Hlava on the podium for the first time

There was also a premiere in Lahti: Lukas Hlava finished third and stood on the podium in the World Cup for the first time in his career. The Czech reached a total of 237.2 points. "It was a windy day but a great day for me. I am really glad about my second jump. Smaller hills are usually better for my technique, so I had a lot of motivation to jump today."

"It is an outdoor sport. Today the best jumpers had no chance, I can be satisfied with my performance. It will be an exciting fight for the overall World Cup until the end and the best will win", said Schlierenzauer, who was sixth and best Austrian on Sunday.

Many top jumpers not in the final

There was sometimes strong tailwind and so the some well-known names missed the qualify for the final round, like ski flying World Champion Robert Kranjec Kamil Stoch, Severin Freund, Martin Koch, Jurij Tepes and Tom Hilde.

The top jumpers, who had bad conditions in the first round and were not in the Top 10, could mostly move up in the final, where the wind didn't have that much influence anymore. Thomas Morgenstern, for example, moved up from 24th to seventh, also Simon Ammann (8th) and Richard Freitag (13.) improved their result with a good second jump.

18-year-old Hvala best Slovene

Newly crowned Junior World Champion Nejc Dezman could score World Cup points for the first time this season, after he made his World Cup debut in Bad Mitterndorf but could not reach the Top 30 there. He was 29th on Sunday. Best Slovene was the only 18-year-old Jaka Hvala as ninth. Piotr Zyla achieved a good result as tenth.

Andreas Kofler was the loser of the day in the fight for the overall title. The Austrian had bad conditions in the first round, in the final he couldn't show a good jump - he ws 26th, a setback. Bardal leads with 1219 points ahead of Schlierenzauer, who scored 1135 points. Kofler is third with 1066 points.
