There is justice in ski jumping. Despite the difficult weather conditions this winter and especially at the ski flying World Championships in Vikersund, there seems to be justice in this sport. Because two athletes won a medal in both competitions in Norway who are among the best ski flyers for years: Robert Kranjec won Gold in the individual competition and Bronze with the team, for Martin Koch captured Bronze in the individual event and Gold with the team.
Nobody will complain when we say that Koch and Kranjec are among the world's best ski flyers. And that's why it's not only good for those two, but also for ski jumping, that they did so well on the world's largest hill.
The two 30-year-old are specialists in ski flying. It's always said that if you are not in a good shape you don't have to go ski flying. This doesn't apply for Koch and Kranjec. If the hill is big, the Slovene and the Austrian are usually top.
Koch and Kranjec are top, when the hill is big
And in opposite to the other super ski flyer, Gregor Schlierenzauer, Koch and Kranjec are not among the favorites on all hills of the world, but especially in ski flying.
The long career of Robert Kranjec »
There is probably nobody in ski jumping who thinks that they don't deserve the medals. For years they are showing great performances in spectacular events on the five huge hills of this world. And if Koch, after he lost the individual gold, says that "now I'll have to jump for two more years", then this shall make every ski jumping fan smile. Because what he shows on ski flying hills is simply fantastic.
Kranjec first Slovenian champion - Freund very fair
The new World Champion Kranjec is 30 years old and took part in six ski flying World Championships and now he crowned himself the first ever ski flying World Champion from Slovenia. That is was Robert Kranjec who achieved that is logical. Even in times when he was not in the world class he could achieve top results in Planica or in Bad Mitterndorf. And his triumph now might turn the season final in Planica into a crazy Kranjec-Party. And that's positive for the whole ski jumping circuit.
Germany's Severin Freund proved how fair ski jumpers are when it comes to the performance of others. He was happy about his fourth place in the individual competitions. "If the third has 20 points more than me, despite a fall, then I don't have to think about a medal", said Freund. "It was my first ski flying World Championships, so it is a good result." Honest words of an honest athlete, who could then win Silver with the team on the final day in Vikersund.
Norwegians happy about shooting star Velta
The Norwegians could surprisingly not win a medal in the team competition, but they can be happy about shooting star Rune Velta, who achieved his first podium result at the World Championships at home. And Anders Fannemel showed the longest jump of the days in Vikersund with 244.5 m, and one of them also still holds the world record (246.5 m). So no reason to be upset.

Only for the leader in the ski flying World Cup it could have gone a little better. Daiki Ito was fifth in the individual and the team competition. He might have hoped for more exactly 20 years after Noriaki Kasai won in Harrachov and 14 years after the titel for the Japanese of Kazuyoshi Funaki in Oberstdorf 1998. But he set a new Japanese national record with 240 m. There is justice in Ski jumping, isn't it?
