Peter Prevc out for several weeks

opprettet på: 23.02.2012 11:08 / km

As already expected, Peter Prevc will not be able to take part in the Ski Flying World Championships in Vikersund this weekend after his fall on Sunday, although he still had some hopes it might be possible.

The 19-year-old fell after a jump on 225.5 m at the final event of the FIS Team Tour on the ski flying hill in Oberstdorf and tore ligaments in his shoulder. He underwent surgery on Sunday evening in Germany.

"Unfortunately I will not travel to Norway. The sugery went well, but I still feel some pain and the risk would be too high. That's why I can't jump in Vikersund", Prevc said on a press conference in Ljubljana on Tuesday. "At first I was sad that I can't participate in the World Championships. Then I realized that this doesn't make the situation any better. Now I have to hold my chin up and look optimistic into the future."

Normally a break of six to eight weeks is necessary after such an injury. But the Slovene still hasn't given up hope yet that he might be able to take part at the season final in Planica in front of his home crowd.

Five jumpers to Vikersund

Head coach Goran Janus now nominated Robert Kranjec, Jurij Tepes, Jernej Damjan, Jure Sinkovec and Dejan Judez to represent Slovenia at the World Championships in Vikersund.
