New ski jumping center in Tschaikowsky

The last days were important for ski jumping in Russia - because with the first jumps on the K125, K95 and K65 hills the new facility called "Snezhinka" (snowflake), the first modern ski jumping center of Russia, was opened in Tschaikowsky.

 

There was also a video-conference with the Kreml in Moscow and so even Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin could get an impression of the opening ceremony and the first jumps on the hills in Tschaikowsky.

After a construction time of about two years the first jumps were now made on the new, modern hills in Tschaikowsky in the Perm region. Since 2009 about 4.4 billion ruble (110 million Euro) were invested in the Snezhinka-Winter Sports Complex with hills, cross country tracks, biathlon-facility and hotel.

 

A delegation around Peter Riedelk, the producer of the SKI-Line inrun tracks with jumping dynamics-measurement system, was in Tschaikowsky for almost two weeks to get the hills ready for jumping and carry out the first test jumps on the K65. Also a few young jumpers from Partenkirchen (GER) travelled to Russia. When FIS official Pekka Hyvaerinen had examined the two competition hills, the first jump was made on the HS 106 by 45-year-old athlete Nikolai Chirkov.

 

"Unique event for Russia"

 

A few days laster, at the end of last week, also the HS 140 hill was openend. Dimitri Ipatov showed the longest jump there with 120 m. Also jumpers from Partenkirchen and other Russian athletes tested the hill. Vladimir Slavskij, vice president of the Russian Ski Jumping Federation was euphoric. "A unique event for Russia took place in Tschaikowsky today. Now we have one of the world's best ski jumping centers. This is the opinion of athletes, coaches and officials!", he said to skijumping.ru.

 

The Russian national championships in March 2012 will be the first official competitions on the "Snowflake"-Hills and until the first international test with the Summer Grand Prix in September 2012 the facility with K125, K65, K45 and K20 hill shall be completed.
