Two years from now the next Olympic Winter Games will be held in Sochi (RUS). On February 18th, the first of the future Olympic hills was officially opened with a national competition.
Russian sports minister Yury Nagornykh, the presiden of the organizing committee for Sochi 2014, Dmitry Chernyshenko and the vice president of the Russian ski jumping federation, Vladimir Slavsky, were among the guests of the opening ceremony.
Dmitry Sporynin makes first jump
Dmitry Sporynin and Aleksey Buivolov, both jumpers from Nizjniy Novgorod and members of the Russian national team, had the honor of making the first jumps on the large hill in Krasnaya Polyana. In the official training Dimitry Ipatov then showed the longest jump on the new facility with 132.5 m.
Facility shall be completed by Dec. 2012
The HS 140 is the first hill that is ready for jumping in the planned ski jumping center "Russki Gorky". The whole center shall be completed by December 2012. The construction on the K95-hill, the judges' tower as well as the track for nordic combined shall be completed already by July.
