On Sunday, the Ladies' ski jumping World Cup in Ljubno looked a lot like it already did on Saturday - the same weather with light wind and light snowfall, once a again a couple of thousand spectators who turned the sports event into a party, and with (almost) the same athletes in the spotlight.
Sarah Hendrickson, who was already in the lead after the first round, won again and set a sensational new hill record in the final with 95 m. "The jumps were good, I'm very satisfied", she said later. "At the beginning of the season I didn't think that I would be that strong, but today might have been an important step in the fight for the overall World Cup title."
It was that important because Daniela Iraschko, ninth after the first round, could only move up to fifth overall and is now 211 points behind in the World Cup ranking - with four more competitions left.
It is just not her favorite hill, and Iraschko proved this statement to be true today. The third place on the podium went to her teammate Jacqueline Seifriedsberger this time. It was her first podium result. "Finally I was able to show two good jumps and achieved a good result", said the Austrian, who posted jumps on 87 m and 84.5 m in Ljubno.
Besides Hendrickson, only Sara Takanashi was better then her. The Japanese showed jumps on 90 m and 90.5 m and was second behind the top star of the circuit. And, typical Japanese, she remained polite and modest. "I'm very satisfied with my second place. Sarah Hendrickson deserved this victory with her second jump."
Daniela Iraschko now plans to compete in the Continental Cup in Liberec on the upcoming weekend. Sarah Hendrickson has not decided yet if she will also take part there. She will train in Predazzo and then compete at the Junior World Championships in Erzurum. The overall World Cup might get decided on March 3rd: Then two competitions will take place in Zao. And if Hendrickson will still have a lead of 200 points or more that evening then the trophy for the overall World Cup title will go to Park City, Utah.
