COC-M: Danny Queck wins in Wisla

While the fight for Gold, Silver and Bronze is on at the World Championships in Val di Fiemme, the Continental Cup series continues in Poland. On the schedule for this weekend are two competitons in Wisla and the first one on Saturday was won by Danny Queck.

With 124 m the German was only seventh after the first round. But with the longest jump of the day on 130.5 m and his total of 252.6 points, the 23-year-old of the ski club in Lauscha took his second win this season. "The competition was very good, no snowfall, no wind. I'm very happy and I hope I can win again tomorrow", said Queck.

 

Matic Benedik, who already showed consistently strong performances over the last weeks, was also among the best in this competition. With 125 m and 126.5 m (249.2 points) the Slovene came in second. "The conditions were perfect. I like to jump in Poland and I like the atmosphere here."

 

Krzysztof Biegun achieved a podium result for the local heroes of Poland. The 18-year-old was not able to defend the leading position he had after the first round, but with 124.5 m and 124 m (245.8 points) he finished in the Top 3 for the first time in his career. "I'm very happy, it was my best result in the COC. In the second jump I was a bit late at the take-off because I wanted to win."

 

The two best Norwegians on the Adam-Malysz-Hill, Kim Rene Elverum Sorsell and Atle Pedersen Roensen, closely missed the podium today as fourth and fifth. 

 

The second best of the Polish team, Jan Ziobro, moved up from 21st to sixth with a very good jump on 127.5 m in the final round. Swiss Pascal Kaelin achieved a career best in the COC on Saturday as seventh.

 

The two Slovenes Nejc Dezman (8th) and Ziga Mandl (10th), and Grzegorz Mietus (9th) of Poland competed the Top 10 in this competition. 

 

Three members of the strong Slovenian team are leading in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup. Andraz Pograjc leads with 583 points ahead of his teammates Matic Benedik (571 points) and Anze Semenic (570 points).
