COC-M: Wolfgang Loitzl wins in Lillehammer
“The performances here at the COC are on a high level, so I am very satisfied with my results in these days. Today's victory means a lot to me and it's been important for the start places in the upcoming winter”, said the winner of the day who claimed the victory with jumps of 137 and 136.5 m and a total of 281.5 points. With a very small advantage of 0.6 points Loitzl has already been leading after the first round.
The 16-year-old Slovenian Cene Prevc put pressure on the Austrian by showing the longest jump of the day with 137.5 m in the first round. After having jumped a distance of 133.5 m in the final round, he was able to assure his position and finish the competition on the second place (276.5 points), what meant his best result at the Continentalcup so far. “After having achieved the 14th place yesterday I knew that I can do even better if I manage to show two good jumps. Personally, I think this result was just a little surprise for me”, said Prevc who wants to be a ski jumper as good as his brother Peter.
The third place was taken by Stephan Leyhe from Germany who finished just off the podium in fourth at yesterday’s competition. “Of course I am satisfied with today's result and my performance at the whole weekend. If I am able to keep on jumping on this level, we will see what I can achieve”, said the 20-year-old who jumped 136 and 133 m (268.4 points).
Jan Matura (CZE) ranked seventh today and keeps on leading in the overall ranking. Anders Jacobsen from Norway was able to score some more points that day but still follows Matura on the second place with 68 points behind. Worth mentioning was also the performance of the young Norwegian jumper Phillip Sjoeen who showed two good jumps and can be pleased about his fourth place today. The same applies to Karl Geiger from Germany who was able to achieve a Top Ten result as well by ranking sixth. For yesterday’s winner Andreas Wellinger the competition ended on the tenth place.
The Continentalcup continues at the upcoming weekend in Chaikovsky (RUS).
