Freund made his debut in the World Cup on December 22nd, 2007 in Engelberg with a 50th place.

... at the Junior World Championships 2008 he won the Gold medal with the German team.

... in January 2011 he celebrated his first World Cup victories in Sapporo and Willingen, at the World Championships in Oslo a few weeks later he won bronze in the team competition on the normal hill

... at the ski flying World Championships in Vikersund (2012) he won silver in the team competition

... at the World Championships in Val di Fiemme 2013 he won Silver with the team and Bronze in the mixed team competition
