The winter 2009/10 will be a winter of comebacks. After the already announced return of t he five-time 4-Hills-Tournament winner Janne Ahonen, also Alexander Herr prepares for a comeback. The 30-year-old wants to return to the competitive jumping at the German national championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen from July 17th to 19th.
The team World Champion from 2001 set aside reserve and announced that he wants to establish himself “at the top of the German team.” Herr left the German Ski Association (DSV) after the Olympics in Torino 2006, where former head-coach Peter Rohwein did not nominated him for the team competition. Herr accused the coach of incompetence and in consequence he was suspended by the association.
Problems with the DSV supposedly cleared out
After that he unsuccessfully tried to jump for a different association. Herr explained he has cleared out the problems with the German association now. “I know that not everything I said or did in the past was right”, Herr wrote in a press release.
“I continued training all the time and since May I already did numerous jumps. That’s why I’m well prepared for my comeback. I’m really keen on jumping and I’m determined again”, he stated.
The German Ski Association did not nominate him for any team yet. “The door is basically open for him”, said a DSV-official.
