Martin Schmitt leaves career end open

Created at: 31.07.2010 16:02 / os

Martin Schmitt is still full of energy. Although the 32-year-old is already going into his 15th season he still feels "top fit", like he said in an interview with the newspaper "Badische Zeitung". "I don't have problems and I think that I'm still able to jump on the highest level", he said.

Schmitt continues pointing out that he still has a lot of fun jumping. A couple of months ago it was said that the team Olympic Champion from 2002 will end his career after the Nordic World Championships in Oslo 2011, now different things can be heard.

Sotchi 2014? Why not?

"I'll see what the future brings and how it'll go for me next year. It's possible that I'll still be competing in Sotchi (ed. Olympic Games 2014). But I might also watch it from home", Schmitt said to the newspaper. The four-time World Champion got a boost out of the silver medal he could win with the team at the Olympics 2010 in Vancouver, where he was able to show a good performance again after the disappointment at the Games in Torino 2006.

Tests with the new bindings: "Not that easy"

It is not clear yet if Schmitt will jump with the new bindings in the upcoming season. The German team tested the new bindings intensively. But some scepticism remains. "It is not that easy to produce a new system that works smoothly and is also better than the old bindings", Schmitt explains.

The decision if Schmitt will already try to jump with the new bindings next week at the opening of the Summer GP in Hinterzarten (Friday, August 6th to Sunday, August 8th) will me made directly before the competition.
