Staggering blow for Russian skijumping. Dimitri Vassiliev fell again at the training camp in Lillehammer and will not be able to compete at the Olympic Games. So the hopes of a medal for the Russian team are down to zero.
In this fall the best Russian jumper hurt his knee again, that was already injured when he fell at the skiflying in Bad Mitterndorf.
Steiert now without competitve jumper Russia's head coach Wolfgang Steiert now stands with his back to the wall. He needs good results, especially with the view towards Sotchi 2014, but now he doesn't have a competitive jumper on his team.
The best Russian result, not achieved by Vassiliev, was the 16th place of Pavel Karelin in Bischofshofen. Behind Vassiliev, Karelin is the best Russian in the overall World Cup as 50th. |
