The movement of Austrian coaches to Germany continues. Richard Schallert, former assistant coach in Austria and recently head coach of the Czech team, will now work with the German Ski Association (DSV). The 45-year-old will coach den B-team.
Horst Huettel, since 2008 head of German skijumping and nordic combined, asked Schallert if he would be interested in the job. "It was an informal contact, but then we had long conversations", Schallert told Berkutschi.com.
Good atmosphere was decisive "Also the Austria Ski Association was interested in my return, but I decided in favor of Germany", "Richie" Schallert told. The former skijumper, who won bronze in the team event at the World Championships in Oberstdorf 1987, was working as a coach in Austria for many years. "I realized that there is a really good atmosphere in Germany. A real positive spirit, and I wanted to be a part of that", Schallert explained his motives.
Right now Schallert is still in a phase of orientation. "I have to visit all the centers and get in touch with the local coaches. It is planned that I will work at the center in Ruhpolding", he said. "But this has not been decided yet."
Never really happy in the Czech Republic Schallert was working in the Czech Republic since 2006. After the season 2008/09 this job ended for the man from Vorarlberg, who was never really happy there. Others tried to have influence on his work. But with Roman Koudelka, Schallert could establich a ray of hope for Czech skijumping in the World Cup.
Schallerts way of coaching is considered up to date and innovativ. Head coach Werner Schuster was also very much in favor of hiring Schallert. |
