Russia takes next step to host a World Cup
Many organizational steps must be taken by a national Association until a nation can host a ski jumping World Cup. And Russia is well on the way. With a view towards the Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi and the trial competitions a year earlier, a seminar took place in Toksovo and Kavkolovo near St. Petersburg. 90 participants from all over the country got information on how to organize a World Cup event on the highest level.

FIS instructors were Horst Tielmann for ski jumping and the nordic combined race director Ulrich Wehling. They were accompanied by Pole Agnieszka Baczkowska, who gave an insight into the administrative work.
Seminar in impressive atmosphere
The seminar was held in a conference hall of a Russian Orthodox church and started with an "impressive church service", Tielmann told FISskijumping. "The orthodox priest is a former skier."
Simulating competition the central topic
The participants learnt about pratical and theoretical issues. The practical lessons were held at the hills of Kavkolovo. There the tasks of the competition committee and its crews was the main focus.
In addition, the work in the race office as well as a team captain's meeting was simulated. Wehling also constructed a start- and finish area for nordic combined with the participants. In order to guarantee a smooth technical run of events, Swiss Timing presented its possibilities in Russia and simulated how to carry out a competition.
Officials came to positive conclusion
According to Tielmann the officials came to a very positive conclusion. "All in all the seminar was well prepared by FIS ski jumping committee member Yuri Kalinin and the participants were very interested", he said.
But with having this training, Russia has not reached the goal yet: A next seminar will take place this fall. Then a national judges' seminar, lead by FIS sub committee chairman Ueli Forrer, shall take place.
